Michele Rizzo (1984) operates at the intersections of art forms such as performance, dance, sculpture and architecture. His inspirations often derive from the poetics of club trance dancing; researching notions of individuality and modes of collectivity. Rizzo’s works are united by a distinctive interest into transformation and transcendence. Notable works include HIGHER (2015), HIGHER xtn. (2019), SPACEWALK (2017) and Deposition (2019). Besides his artistic practice he is a regular guest teacher in choreography and movement research at the School For New Dance Development in Amsterdam, and has thought workshops at, among others, Impulstanz Vienna, ISAC Bruxelles, Studio 303 Montreal.
His work has been presented and performed at institutions, venues and festivals including V-A-C Foundation, Venice; Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin, The Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw; Triennale di Milano, Milan; Santarcangelo Festival, Rimini; Actoral, Montreal and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, which has also acquired his work HIGHER xtn. for its collection. In 2020 Rizzo will show a new work commissioned by KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin.
