In de koude wereld van de ijsbaan en te midden van het schaatsende publiek tonen Hans-Hannah, Jesse van Epenhuijsen, Laila Saber Rodriguez, Perro Feo, Robert Ronquillo en S.R. Niekoop hun nieuwe werk.
[H] Als de wereld bevroren is, vinden we buiten verbondenheid en plezier. We bewegen ons over, normaal gesproken, een onbereikbaar paradijs, vol verbazing.
[J] De mensen beseften dat er niet veel tijd meer was op de schaatsbaan. Iedereen deed zijn best om zich te herinneren wat voor tijd ze hier hadden doorgebracht. Kleine hints en briefjes werden door het hele gebouw verspreid om hen te helpen beseffen.
[L] Plotseling verscheen er als een bliksemschicht een monoliet, bevroren in de tijd, en het fluistert verhalen in van een mythologisch landschap dat ons waarschuwt voor toekomstige ontmoetingen.
[R] We waren kinderen en ensceneerden een veelheid van handelingen. Overleven in de omgeving, lichaam en geest begrijpen of ten strijde trekken.
[A] Hoe ervaart een kind een monoliet? Iets zo groot dat mijn ogen een ster worden. Iets zo groot dat mijn tong ongelooflijk lang wordt.
[SR] Er was eens een tijd dat je bijna bereikte wat je wilde. Vond wat je nodig had, zag wat er was. Paste bijna waar het wilde, althans je probeerde het.
In the cold world of the ice rink and amidst the skating public, Hans-Hannah, Jesse van Epenhuijsen, Laila Saber Rodriguez, Perro Feo, Robert Ronquillo and S.R. Niekoop show their new work.
[H] When the world is frozen, we find solidarity and fun outside. We move over, normally, an unreachable paradise, full of astonishment.
[J] People realized there wasn’t much time left in the ice skating rink. Everyone did the best they could to remember what time they had spent here. Little hints and notes were spread throughout the building to help them realize.
[L] Suddenly, like lightning, a monolith appeared, frozen in time, and it is whispering stories of a mythological landscape warning us of future encounters.
[R] We were children and staged a multitude of acts. Surviving in the environment, understanding the body and mind or staging for war.
[P] How does a child experience a monolith? Something so big my eyes become a star. Something so big my tongue becomes incredibly long.
[SR] Once upon a time you almost reached what you wanted. Found what you needed, saw what was there. Almost fitted where it wanted, at least you tried.

OVER DE EXPOSITIE LOCATIE: DE SCHAATSBAAN
Dit jaar vindt de Midseason expositie plaats op de schaatsbaan: Kardinge. Een plaats waar sport en vrije tijd elkaar ontmoeten in deze kunstmatige schaatsomgeving.
In de prehistorie schaatste men al over ijsvlakten om zo sneller te kunnen reizen. Een vooral praktische aangelegenheid. Vanaf de middeleeuwen zijn er meer aanwijzingen over schaatsen als volkspret en worden de eerste schaatswedstrijden verslagen. Het werd een activiteit waarin de verschillen tussen mensen niets uitmaakte. Jong en oud, arm en rijk, man en vrouw, het was van iedereen.
Het schaatsen is een belangrijk onderdeel geworden van de Nederlandse cultuur. Waar Nederland het jaar rond tegen het water vecht, brengt het ons in bevroren versie in de winter plezier. Waar het steeds minder gangbaar lijkt te worden om in de winter op natuurijs te kunnen schaatsen, zorgen kunstmatige ijsbanen als Kardinge ervoor dat deze Nederlandse traditie kan voortbestaan.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION LOCATION: THE ICE SKATING RINK
This years midseason exhibition takes place at the ice skating rink: Kardinge. A place where sport and leisure meet in this artificial ice skating environment.
In prehistoric times, people were already skating across icy surfaces in order to travel faster. A mainly practical matter. From the Middle Ages onwards, there are more indications of skating as a popular pastime and the first skating competitions are reported. It became an activity in which the differences between people did not matter. Young and old, rich and poor, male and female, it belonged to everyone. Skating became an important part of Dutch culture. Where the Netherlands fights the water all year round, the frozen version brings pleasure in winter. Where it seems to become less and less common to be able to skate on natural ice in the winters, ice rinks like Kardinge ensure that the tradition of the Dutch can continue.

This year's midseason program is open for applications!
Sign up for our 10 week program and learn to become more confident, aware and visible as a professional artist. During this program you will meet some of Het resort's previous residents, get introduced to the fine art of networking, work on your writing and presentation skills with the members of the SYB Circles program, go on trips and studio visits and meet fellow artists!
The midseason program runs from october 9th till december 18th 2021 and in february/march 2022 you will participate in a group exhibition on a surprise location organized by Het resort.
We will select 6 artists for this program that match the following criteria:
- you graduated from a dutch art school (BFA) in 2019, 2020 or 2021.
- you want to grow into a professional art practice and are able to invest time in this program.
- you want to expand your network and invest in new relations.
- you want to learn more about the choices that artists need to make and criteria they need to match.
- you are open to criticism and want to know how fellow artists, curators and art critics perceive you and your work.
- you live in the netherlands or are able to travel to the netherlands to participe on trips and join group meetings
- you are registered as a business and can sent an invoice for your fee
