Het resort is a site-specific art space located in Groningen, organizing residencies and other programs for contemporary artists at uncanny locations, offering a retreat for daily art practice and providing space and time to enter into collaboration and tricky projects. Testing favorable and unfavorable conditions, het resort seeks to figure out in a series of site-specific projects how art can stand its ground in certain contexts.

Het resort invites artists to work site specific in ever-changing (semi-)public locations. Together we travel to places where everyday life takes place and dwell on everyday peculiarities, infiltrating the environment, merging into it and building relationships to stretch the boundaries of the space that art can occupy.

Popular culture (volkscultuur) is the centre focus for the projects at het resort over the next four years. Between 2025-2028 we will look at various themes within mass culture and cultural heritage. This year, 2025, our subject is old and new traditions in food and drink culture. One of the most basic and daily expressions subject to tradition and identity formation. All of our projects this year take place in settings relating to this subject, such as the brown bar.
